Work has begun on Orpington's new
multiplex cinema and leisure development.
The 65,000 sq ft. development
anchored by a 7 screen Odeon cinema is scheduled for completion by spring 2016.
Fast expanding B&M, one of
the leading variety retailers in the UK and Pure Gym have secured space in the
development.
New mayor, Councillor Julian
Bennington marked the start of the construction on 30th June, with a ceremonial
first dig and said 'I am delighted to be here to 'turn the first sod' on this
exciting and important development. The project will improve the retails
and leisure offer available in Orpington and make it an even better town to
visit.'
Orpington has been without a
cinema for some 30 years and will be strengthened by The Walnuts new role as a
community hub and retail/leisure destination, encouraging further development
and investment in the surrounding area.
