A planning application for a new 61 bed Premier Inn hotel, in
Orpington, has been approved by London Borough of Bromley.
Whitbread,
the UK’s leading hospitality company and
owner of the Premier Inn brand, will provide Orpington High Street with its
first hotel, complimenting a £15 million
regeneration project already underway.
The company has shown its commitment to the town by taking a 30 year
lease on the property.
Construction
of the hotel is scheduled to commence later this year, with completion expected
in the first quarter of 2016.
In
addition to the Premier Inn, a 7 screen Odeon Cinema, 24 hour Pure Gym, variety
retailer B&M and Bella Italia will contribute to the transformation of the
Walnuts Shopping Centre, regenerating Orpington, creating jobs and encouraging
further investment, in the surrounding area.
Martin
Price, Walnuts Centre Manager said;
“We are very
excited that Premier Inn is coming to The Walnuts. With the Odeon Cinema and restaurants opening
later this year, we eagerly await the positive impact these developments will
have on the centre. Orpington really is
changing”
John
Rumsey, Acquisitions Manager for Premier Inn said;
“We are delighted to have gained
planning permission for our new 61-bedroom Premier Inn in Orpington. As well as
contributing to the regeneration of Orpington town centre, the new Premier Inn
will also deliver £5.8 million if new investment and
25 new year-round jobs.
We look
forward to working with our development partner, Miller Developments and
opening our doors to customers in early 2016.”
