Bra Vo! - Be a breast friend and make a difference!

Walnuts Shopping Centre, Orpington has a very strange request for the ladies of the Borough of Bromley – they would like your unwanted bras!

This is not the result of a strange fetish that the shopping centre has developed, but part of a year long charity bra collection campaign to raise much needed funds for local charity, Harris HospisCare.

Harris HospisCare with St Christopher’s has provided expert medical and nursing care to dying persons in the comfort of their own home across Bromley for 25 years. Harris HospisCare treats every patient as an individual and supports their family and friends through the illness and bereavement. All its services are provided to patients free of charge. As a registered charity Harris HospisCare relies on donations, fundraising events and legacies to continue its work. It costs over £2.1 million each year to maintain its services.

At the end of the campaign, bras will be weighed and £1 per kilo will be donated to Harris HospisCare. All bras will then be exported to third world buyers to create viable overseas businesses enabling them to support their families.

Martin Price, Centre Manager at Walnuts commented: “I’m sure that during the campaign the community can pull together and give Harris HospisCare great support.”

The campaign will be launched at Walnuts by the Mayor, Councillor Denise Reddin, who will be donating the first bra to the campaign, Martin Price and a representative from Harris HospisCare on Thursday 7th May at 11.00am.

The bright pink bra bank will be available at Walnuts throughout 2009 and any clean wearable bras of any size will be greatly appreciated!
