Jasmine wows judges at carol final

Talented 12-year-old Jasmine Jethwa scooped first prize in the Orpington’s Carol competition at the Walnuts Shopping Centre on Saturday (19th November).

The songstress, a pupil at Harris Academy in Bromley, beat off strong competition from Green Street Green Primary School to land the title.

She can now look forward to receiving her winner’s plaque and seeing her school music department benefit to the tune of £500.

Jasmine said: “I really enjoyed performing at the centre and am delighted to have won.”

Walnuts centre manager Martin Price, who was one of four judges of the final, added: “The children from Green Street Green were fantastic but Jasmine just blew us away with the quality of her performance.

“She has a remarkable voice for her age and I wouldn’t be surprised if she went on to achieve big things in the music world.”

The pupils from Green Street Green Primary notched up second and third places in the competition with  two original compositions written by the pupils themselves.

Shoppers also got a special treat during the judges’ deliberations, with popular girl band One Step Beyond performing a selection of their favourite tracks.
