New Odeon In Orpington to Drive Mixed Use Renaissance of Orpington

Odeon Cinema have now exchanged contracts committing them to open a new 7-screen multiplex cinema in Orpington in 2014, which is the centrepiece of a more comprehensive regeneration of Orpington town centre.

Whilst the cinema will be the most high profile addition to the town centre, it is only a part of a much larger transformation that will see a total of 50,000 sq

ft developed on site of the former job centre, which will comprise 3 restaurants and 4 large retail units.

Additionally owners are talking to a national hotel operator and number of major gym groups.

Neil Finnie of Miller Developments, development managers, commented “Odeon’s commitment is a real vote of confidence in the potential of Orpington town

centre and we will shortly commence work on this development that will change the face of the town centre.”

Mike Wimble of Ellandi, added “Thriving town centres are not just about retail any more.  Bringing these complimentary uses into the town that already has a leisure centre and college at its heart, will boost footfall and give locals the town they deserve.”

The Walnuts shopping centre was purchased in September 2011 by  Miller Developments and Middle Eastern investors, advised by investment managers Ellandi. The next few years will see an additional £15m invested to bring these plans to fruition.
